Youth Skills and Community Engagement Pilot Project (YSCE)
YSCE Overview
Following the global pandemic and the challenges, access for youth to leadership, livelihoods and employability (LLE) focused skills training programs have collapsed in Myanmar. To address youth’s necessity for LLE skills training, YSCE intensive course has been developed and piloted in 5 different institutions across Myanmar: Kachin State, Shan State, Kayah State, and Karen State.
This course, organized by Cherry Myay Academy, targets 16-25-year-old disadvantaged and marginalized youth from Southern Shan State. The course is guided by two experienced facilitators, which is a part time foundational LLE skills training course consisting of a 3-month facilitated core course (face to face) followed by a 3-month community engagement learning project (CELP) led by youth.
Objective
The YSCE course aims to meet the unique learning needs of youths as well as prioritizes three best practice learning methodologies for youth learning: participatory learning, growth mindset and success.
Date: Every Thursdays & Fridays (including Saturday twice a month)
Duration: June -August (face to face learning)/ September – November ( CELP )
Time: 9am -3pm
Location: Cherry Myay off- campus
YSCE values
- Positive, proactive knowledge, attitudes and behaviors comes from the collective, rather than the individuals and is continuously being developed.
- Youth have the potential to transform communities.
- Learners and facilitators should develop and demonstrate responsible leadership qualities while learning and after the program and especially when dealing with the community.
- Learners and facilitators should refine and expand their skills and knowledge so they can be transferred in a manner that benefits and empowers communities.
- Staff and learners have the responsibility to promote a safe learning environment for themselves and the communities they serve.
- They support ethnic, religious, economic, and gender equality, believing that when learners learn together with people from different backgrounds, they can overcome stereotypes, and work towards building a more united Myanmar.
